Riton (born September 13, 1978 in Newcastle upon Tyne , real name: Henry Oliver Smithson ) is a British DJ and music producer. It is also known as Eine Kleine Nacht Musik and part of the duo Carte Blanche with DJ Mehdi .

Life

Henry Smithson grew up in Manchester and studied at Newcastle University . After graduating, he founded his own label, Switch Recordings, and began DJing at Shindig nightclub , where he was finally discovered by Mark Rae and signed by his independent label Grand Central Records . He also worked at Fat City Records in Manchester. His stage name is based on the French diminutive of his first name "Henri".

He made his debut on Grand Central's sampler Central Heating 2 and released his debut album Beats du Jour in 2001 , which was primarily instrumental. In 2004 his second album Homies and Homos was released . The album included a cover version of The Cure classic Killing an Arab . In 2008 he began to musically integrate Krautrock into his work under the name Eine Kleine Nacht Musik .

In the following years he mainly appeared as a remixer and made various versions for Scissor Sisters , Human League , Soulwax and especially MIA and Chromeo, among others . In 2010 he founded the short-lived project Carte Blanche with DJ Mehdi, which released two EPs on Ed Banger , which were among the best-selling records there. However, his partner died in 2011 under tragic circumstances in Paris. Shocked by Mak Rae's death, his musical career paused until 2013. That year he returned with the four-track EP Lost My Mind . Bad Guy Riri followed in 2014 . In the same year he toured with Mark Ronson .

In 2015, the 2007 album of the project Die Verboten followed together with David and Stephen Dewele and Fergus “Fergadelic” Purcell . The album, as the title suggests, was recorded back in 2007 and was heavily influenced by Kraftwerk .

In 2016 his track Rinse & Repeat was released in collaboration with singer Kath-Lo . The title was at the Grammy Awards 2017 as Best Dance Recording nominated. It reached number 13 on the British music charts . With Kah-Lo he released the two collab albums Fake ID (2017) and Foreign Ororo (2018).

In 2019 the single Turn Me On was released together with Oliver Heldens and Vula, which reached number 12 and also entered the charts in Germany.
