DJ Mehdi (* 20th January 1977 in Gennevilliers , Hauts-de-Seine , † 13. September 2011 in Paris , real name Mehdi Favéris-Essadi ) was a French hip-hop - and House - producer with Tunisian roots.

He was initially the DJ of the band Different Teep , later of Ideal J and was a member of the group Mafia K'1 Fry . He then produced as a solo artist for the Ed Banger Records label , with which he was under contract.

Life

Mehdi was born in a suburb to the northwest of Paris . He was initially a DJ for the band Different Teep , and later for Ideal J , gaining experience in the music scene. Later he took over the production work for the group 113 , Different Teep and Karlito . He became one of the most famous hip-hop producers in the French underground. Through the creative exchange with the greats of electronic music, collaborations with Daft Punk , Cassius , MC Solaar , Futura 2000 , Asian Dub Foundation and Chromeo came about.

After signing his contract with Ed Banger Records , Mehdi worked with Busy P to combine techno and hip-hop elements. Once a month, the two of them played together with great success in the Paris nightclub Pulp .

His first LP was released in 2002 with the name The Story of Espion . The second album Lucky Boy came out in August 2006. The single I am Somebody was used in 2007 for a commercial on the American broadcaster XM Satellite Radio .

Together with the musician Riton (Henry Smithson) he started a music project in 2010, the French-English electro duo called themselves "Carte Blanche".

Mehdi died on September 13, 2011 as a result of a fall after he celebrated with friends on the roof of his house and it collapsed.
