life and career

Uffie in New York, 2006

Anna-Catherine Hartley was born on December 9, 1987 in Miami , Florida , USA . When she was four years old, she moved to Hong Kong because of her father's job . However, she later came back to Florida and attended high school there . At the age of 15 she came to Paris on vacation to visit her father, who was working there. Since she said she didn't like the United States very much, she decided not to fly back home. So she moved to Paris, where she finished school at the International School of Paris .

In Paris she organized a fashion show and the subsequent party for Lee Cooper. For this party she booked the French musician Feadz . DJ Feadz introduced them to the local music scene and the two got closer together, dating from 2005 to 2008. With this support she started making music herself, so that at the end of 2005 Uffie's MySpace page could also go online to publish her music. At the time, Uffie was enrolled in the fashion design course at the Ecole de Mode Internationale and now had to choose music or her studies. She chose music because you only get such an opportunity once in a lifetime.

Their first single, Pop the Glock, was initially a limited promo release on Arcade Mode (January 2006), but was then released by the French electronic label Ed Banger Records . Pop the Glock was produced by her friend DJ Feadz, the B-side of the single Ready to Uff by label colleague Mr. Oizo . The following two songs, Hot Chick and In Charge , first appeared in Audioblogs in July 2006, and shortly afterwards on their MySpace page. They were later officially released by their Ed Banger Records label. In March 2007 a new song Dismissed was released , which could only be found on Ed Rec Vol. 2, a compilation of their label. On June 19, First Love appeared on MySpace along with B-side Brand New Car . Her next single, Steroids , came out in December 2008 and was also produced by Oizo-san.

In the fall of 2009, her career was accelerated. First, their first music video was produced for their debut single, Pop the Glock . The single was officially re-released and this time reached number 89 in France. On February 1, 2010 the single MC's Can Kiss , produced by Mr. Oizo , was released , the first single from the album Sex Dreams and Denim Jeans released on June 5, 2010 . In addition to Mr. Oizo, Madonna producer Mirwais and DJ Feadz also contributed to the album .

music

Uffie's music is a mixture of electro pop , minimal electro , dance and rap . The focus is on the electronically sounding rhythms and the partly electronically changed voice of Uffies, although the beats also have a strong hip-hop character. FACT magazine described their music as follows: “ Her tracks, often performed in a wannabe English accent, have a deliberately staid anti-flow delivery that walks a fine line between electro and nu-skool rap. "(" Your songs, often performed with a would-be English accent, have a deliberately deliberate anti-flow that treads the fine line between electro and nu-school rap. ")
