Mr. Oizo [ məsjø wazo ] ( corruption of French Monsieur Oiseau , dt. 'Herr Vogel ') is the pseudonym of Quentin Dupieux (born April 14, 1974 ) as a musician . As a filmmaker , the French artist is known by his real name.

Publications

He made his first attempts at directing as a member of the shooting team for the film Midi-Minuit by Michel Gondry . After meeting Laurent Garnier , he was accepted into the FCom / Pias label under his pseudonym Mr. Oizo.

Mr. Oizo is best known to the general public for his 1999 song Flat Beat . It has been sold more than three million times and was number 1 on the charts in various countries (e.g. Great Britain, Germany). For this song he received a nomination in the "Dance" category at the Brit Awards , along with other artists such as Jamiroquai , Chemical Brothers and Fatboy Slim . The main character in the video for Flat Beat is a yellow cuddly toy named Flat Eric , who also plays a role in Dupieux's later cinematic works (including a Levi’s jeans commercial).

Dupieux himself says of his compositions that they are " based on the inaudible and the desire to end the song " [orig .: " l'inécoutable et l'envie de stopper la track "]. In an interview with Tsugi magazine in June 2010, he admitted that he calls his creations “ great something ” [orig .: “ grand n'importe quoi ”] and also the well-known software for processing electronic music, Ableton Live , “ completely according to the principle of chance use ”[orig .:“ utiliser totalement au hasard ”], randomly looking for samples in the sound database that came with the software.

His album Analog Worms Attack , on which Feadz worked, followed the single Flat Beat .

In 2004 the EP Stunt was released with the songs Stunt and 1 $ 44 , which can also be found on the 2005 album Mustache (Half a Scissor) .

In 2006 he produced the first songs by Uffie, an electroclash artist from Miami.

Between 2006 and 2007 Quentin Dupieux wrote and directed his second feature film, Steak , in which the French comedian duo "Éric et Ramzy" acted as actors.

On November 17th, 2008, Mr. Oizo's third album, Lambs Anger, was released . It contains, among other songs, the pieces Bruce Willis Is Dead , Positif and Z .

In 2010 his third feature film was released: Rubber . This is about a tire, Robert, whose family was burned. Robert then decides to take revenge on the people. The film took part in the 2010 Cannes Film Festival . Dupieux composed the soundtrack together with Gaspard Augé from the band Justice .
