Tiga
Tiga (* 1974 as Tiga Sontag ) is an international DJ and music producer in the field of electronic music ( electro , techno and house ) from Montreal , Canada .
He became known in Germany in 2001 for his remake of the 1980s hit Sunglasses at Night (original by Corey Hart ), as well as his remix of Nelly's song Hot in Herre . Tiga has its own record label called Turbo and has been a DJ since the early 1990s. He lived abroad for some time, including a long time in Goa (India). After his return to Montreal, his declared aim was to revitalize and internationalize the electronic scene in his home country.
Life
Tiga spent a long time with his father in Goa (India) in the 1980s, where he worked as a DJ . In the early 1990s he made his first own appearances as a DJ in Montreal. At that time he mostly played acid house. At the age of 18 he organized the first major raves in his home country and a concert by the artist Moby in Montreal. In the 1990s he ran his own club in his city called Sona. He had a regular radio show at CKUT, a University of Montreal radio station. Together with his artist colleague DNA, Tiga opened a record shop for techno and, with DJ Mark Dillon, he founded his label Turbo in 1998. Own compositions and productions followed only from the year 2000. The first production was a remake of the track When Doves Cry by Prince , the second a remake of New Years Day by the band U2 . Both these two productions and his first cover hit Sunglasses at Night from 2001 were produced together with the Finn Jori Hulkkonen , who also works under the name Zyntherius. Fashion icon Amanda Lepore can be seen in Sunglasses at Night's music video . Sunglasses at Night became an international hit with over 200,000 units sold and top ten placement in the German charts. His remix of Hot in Herre by the artist Nelly is also one of his better-known works.
Current activity
Tiga's label Turbo now works with 25 artists and has ten to 15 releases per year, both on CD and as records . He is touring around the world as a DJ and by 2006 had more than 1,000 appearances in 20 countries and 50 cities. According to him, the most profitable activities for him are mainly appearances as a guest DJ and also selling his own compositions. Together with the German music producer Zombie Nation , he founded the music project ZZT .
