biography
Beginnings and career in the 1980s
Corey Hart was born in the Canadian province of Québec and grew up in Spain , Mexico and the US state of Florida . At 17 he moved to New York , where he made friends with Billy Joel's backing band. After returning to his native Montreal, Hart got his first record deal with Aquarius Records.
At the 11th World Popular Song Festival in Tokyo in 1980, he represented Canada with the song Trudy Blue .
His first hit, his own composition Sunglasses at Night , reached number 21 in Germany and number 7 in the USA . The accompanying debut album First Offense , released in 1983 , was a success in Canada and the USA. The second release It Ain't Enough placed at number 17 in the US charts .
The album Boy in the Box , which followed in 1985 and , like its predecessor, was produced by Jon Astley and Phil Chapman , made it to number 59 in the German album charts and number 20 in the United States. In Canada it was his first number one. Album , it stayed on top for 9 weeks and was awarded a diamond for one million copies sold. The single Never Surrender also reached number 1 in 1985 and rose to number 37 in Germany and even to number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100. The title song that was subsequently released from the album reached number 26 in the same year, the follow-up single Everything in My Heart a short time later number 30 in the USA. Also in 1985 Corey Hart received the Juno Award for best newcomer in his home country .
He has been considered as a possible leading actor in the 1985 film Back to the Future . However, the role went to Michael J. Fox . Corey was denied an acting career.
The Canadian's third album went on sale in 1986 and climbed to number 55 in the US album charts . This resulted in three songs becoming hits. First came I Am by Your Side , which reached number 18 in the US. This was followed by Hart's cover version of the Elvis Presley hit Can't Help Falling in Love , which made it to number 24 on the Billboard Hot 100. The third release, Dancin 'with My Mirror , did not get past 88th place.
The 1987 album Young Man Running only reached number 121 on the Billboard 200. Only the song In Your Soul contained on it made it to number 38 on the US singles charts. At number 37, the 1990 single A Little Love was only slightly better, and the accompanying album only climbed to number 137 on the Billboard album charts in the same year. Both the 1996 album Corey Hart and its 1998 successor Jade missed a chart placement, as did the singles that were released.
In 1995, Corey Hart met French-Canadian singer Julie Masse to work on her first English-language album. They became a couple (they only got married in 2000) and they settled in Nassau , the capital of the Bahamas , with their first child . Masse ended her career and after two more children, Hart also largely withdrew from the music business in 1999.
Late career and comeback in 2019
In the following years he only made himself available sporadically for remixes and guest contributions. There was also one or the other appearance on various occasions and occasions. He founded his own label Siena Records in 2003 , but it wasn't until 2011 that he signed two musicians. He also found out through his social media activities that he still had a large following, and decided to hold an official farewell concert in his hometown of Montreal in 2014 . The Center Bell was sold out with 13,500 spectators and he played 38 songs for four hours until past midnight. He also published an autobiography and the Ten Thousand Horses album with demo songs and recordings with his wife and Jane Siberry .
In 2016, Hart was allowed to immortalize himself with a star on the Canadian Walk of Fame in Toronto. A year later, during the same event, he met producer Bob Ezrin and became friends with him. From this a new interest in music and new songs developed. In addition, he got an offer for his own stadium tour in Canada. He was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in March 2019 . Two months later he released the mini album Dreaming Time Again with eight new songs of his own. It went straight to number 1 on the Canadian charts. This is followed by the Canada tour, followed by two appearances in Japan.
