Ruby Turner

Ruby Turner (born June 22, 1958 in Montego Bay , Jamaica ) is a Jamaican R&B singer, songwriter and actress.

life and career

When she was nine years old, Ruby Turner's family moved from Jamaica to England . She began her musical career in the early 1980s with Alexis Korner (DVD Live at the Marquee , with Charlie Watts , among others ). It can be heard on albums by UB40 ( Labor of Love , 1983) and Culture Club ( From Luxury to Heartache , 1986). In 1986 their debut album Women Hold Up Half the Sky was released , which received good reviews and also sold well (number 47 on the UK album charts). Of the singles released, I'd Rather Go Blind was the most successful (in 1987 number 24 in the UK single charts). The Motown Songbook reached the highest chart position of all Ruby Turner albums (UK 22nd in 1988). The single It's Gonna Be Alright from the album Paradise (1989) even made it to number 1 on the US R&B charts in 1990. Over time, Ruby Turner has worked with many international stars including Steve Winwood , Mick Jagger , Jools Holland , Seasick Steve and many more. Songs she wrote were recorded by other artists including Lulu , Yazz, and Maxi Priest . As an actress, she had appearances in various stage productions ( Endstation Sehnsucht , Carmen Jones , Fame, etc.) and television series ( Little Britain , Doctors, etc.) as well as in the comedy Actually… Love .
