The Marquee Club was a concert hall in London that existed until 2008 and opened in June 1958. In the 1960s and 1970s in particular, it was a stepping stone into the international music business for numerous formations.

The Marquee Club's peak as a jazz club began in 1958, when it was owned by Harold Pendleton , founder of the National Jazz Federation and manager of Chris Barber . From the beginning he also brought blues musicians into the program, who dominated from 1963.

Until the mid-1960s, the club was the hub of Swinging London on Oxford Street. After that, the Marquee had his domicile on Wardour Street (Soho). In the club, which was considered the Mecca of the British blues - rock scene, two live acts of one hour each took place every evening. Among other things occurred The Crazy World of Arthur Brown , Steamhammer , Marmalade , Amen Corner , Status Quo , Scorpions , Jimi Hendrix , Jethro Tull , Iron Maiden , John Mayall with Eric Clapton or its successor as lead guitarist, Peter Green , and again his successor Mick Taylor , Elton John , Dick Taylor , Queen , Oasis , The Who , Pink Floyd , Marillion , Dream Theater , The Nice , Wham! , Dick Morrissey and Rory Gallagher with key on. The Rolling Stones gave there on July 12, 1962 their first concert under their band name.

To mark its 25th anniversary, there were reunion concerts by John Mayall's Bluesbreakers (with former Rolling Stones musician Mick Taylor on guitar), the Yardbirds (with original members Jim McCarty, Chris Dreja and Paul Samwell-Smith), Manfred in 1983 Mann , Ten Years After , Alexis Korner and Man .
