Felix da Housecat (* 27. August 1971 in Chicago as Felix Stallings Jr. ) is an American House - and Techno producer and DJ .

Life

Felix first appeared musically in 1986 when he was still a teenager and recorded a remake of his hit "Phantasy Girl" with DJ Pierre ( Phuture ). After finishing school, however, he was no longer musically active, probably at the urging of his religious parents, and attended college in Alabama. His musical new beginning with the Strictly Rhythm label was once again supervised by DJ Pierre. With the single Thee Dawn he had a club hit in 1992. In 1994 he founded his label Radical Fear , which, in addition to his own publications, also released records by DJ Sneak and Mike Dunn, which is said to have not been commercially successful. Felix also published under other pseudonyms, for example Aphrohead or Thee Maddkatt Courtship , and on other labels such as Bush , Nervous , Soma , or Djax Up .

He made his debut album in 1995 with "Alone in the Dark" (as Thee Maddkatt Courtship ), followed by two compilation albums with productions by his label. In 1999 he published the Maddkatt album "I Know Electrikboy", which was named album of the year by Mixmag magazine .

His music is made up of simple, hypnotic techno or electro loops, most of which are accompanied by vocals. The melody instruments used are Roland TB-303- like sounds, as they are common in Acid House , as well as harmonic strings, which is why his productions have been called "kitschy" by reviewers several times. In addition to the studio productions, Felix da Housecat has also been a DJ since the beginning of his career.

After meeting Miss Kittin at a DJ performance in Switzerland, the 2001 album “Kittenz And Thee Glitz” was recorded within just three hours. The album, co-produced by Junior Sanchez, is considered a pioneer of electroclash and the resulting fame has since brought Felix remixes for Madonna , Kylie Minogue , Britney Spears , Chemical Brothers and others. His piece "Rocket Ride" is used in the computer game Need for Speed: Underground 2 , various remixes of "Silver Screen Shower Scene" were used in video games such as Midnight Club II and SSX 3 .
