Hot in Herre is a song by the rapper Nelly . It was released in 2002 as the second single from his album Nellyville . The title was produced by The Neptunes . The piece stayed at the top of the American Billboard charts for seven weeks . At the Grammy Awards 2003 , the song was awarded in the category Best Male Solo Performance - Rap .

The lyrics mainly describe impressions of a dissolute party life . The chorus line “It's gettin 'hot in here / So take off all your clothes” became particularly well known. The answer "I am gettin 'so hot / I wanna take my clothes off" came from the American singer Dani Stevenson. VH1 put the piece at number 25 on its "List of the Best Songs of the 2000s". The music magazine Rolling Stone voted Hot in Herre at number 21 of the “Best Summer Songs of All Time”.

Hot in Herre was used for several years as running-in music for American football player Ray Lewis of the Baltimore Ravens . In a commercial for Pepsi that aired on the occasion of Super Bowl XLVI , Hot in Herre is sung by a court jester .

The computer-animated comedy Madagascar 3: Escape through Europe , released in 2012, shows a performance of Hot in Herre by the film character King Julien. This version of the title is also featured on the film's soundtrack. In the American feature film Spring Breakers , released in the same year, the main characters sing the play in the hallway of a student dormitory.

Cover versions

In 2003 the song was covered by electronic and house DJ and music producer Tiga in collaboration with Scissor Sisters front singer Jake Shears and released as a single. This version of the title made it to number 65 in the German single charts. In the Netherlands, it reached number 46 one week after entering the chart and stayed in the charts for a total of 7 weeks. In Great Britain, Hot in Herre also reached 46th place.

A cover version of the southern rock band Widespread Panic was released in 2004 on their album Jackassolantern . In 2005 The BossHoss covered the piece on the album Internashville Urban Hymns and in 2006 the stoner rock band Core on the album Perfect Summer . In 2007, a Hot in Herre interpretation by singer Jenny Owen Youngs appeared on her EP, The Take Off All Your Clothers EP, titled after one line of the title .

In January 2013 the ensemble of the American series Glee produced a mashup of Hot in Herre and the 1981 title Centerfold by The J. Geils Band in the fourth season . The mashup was also released as a single after the series aired in America.
