Nellyville is the second studio album by the American rapper Nelly . It was released on June 25, 2002 on the Universal Records and Fo 'Reel labels .
Production and samples
Nelly herself as well as Kevin Law and C-Love served as executive producers on the album . Most of the beats were produced by Jason Epperson, who contributed nine instrumentals . Waiel Yaghnam produced three productions, while The Neptunes , Trackboyz, Antoine Macon and Ryan Bowser and Just Blaze each produced a song.
Three songs contain samples from tracks by other artists. Sun includes Hot in Herre an interpolation of the play Bustin 'Loose by Chuck Brown and Pimp Juice is sampling Love Comes in All Colors from the gospel group The Staple Singers . Dilemma also contains elements of the title Love, Need and Want You by soul singer Patti LaBelle .
Cover design
The album cover shows a sepia-colored photo of Nelly looking at the viewer. At the top left of the picture is the title Nellyville in black.
Guest Posts
In addition to Nelly, other artists can be heard on eleven or twelve tracks on the album. Comedian Cedric the Entertainer and presenter La La are featured on the skits Gettin 'It Started , In the Store and Fuck It Then . Nelly's rap group St. Lunatics has three guest appearances on the songs Dem Boyz , Air Force Ones and CG 2 , while singer Kelly Rowland can be heard on Dilemma . The song Rock the Mic - Remix is a collaboration with rappers Beanie Sigel , Freeway and Murphy Lee , the latter also appearing on Oh Nelly . Nelly is also supported by singer Justin Timberlake on Work It and King Jacob can be heard on On the Grind . The bonus song Stick Out Ya Wrist contains a guest contribution by the singer Toya.

Chart successes and singles
Nellyville entered the German album charts at number 2 on July 15, 2002 and was at number 5 in the following two weeks. In total, it stayed in the top 100 for 33 weeks. In the USA, the album reached the top position in the charts and was able to stay in the top 200 for 72 weeks, including four weeks at number 1. The album also reached the top 10 in Austria, Switzerland and Great Britain. In the German annual charts in 2002, the Sound carrier rank 22.
Six songs on the album were released as singles . The songs Dilemma (1st place in Germany, Switzerland, Great Britain and the USA) and Hot in Herre (1st place in the USA) were particularly successful. The other releases # 1 , Air Force Ones , Work It and Pimp Juice also made it into the charts of various countries.

Nellyville has sold over 6.5 million copies in the United States, earning six times platinum . It is one of the most commercially successful rap albums in the USA and, after Nelly's debut album Country Grammar, is the rapper's best-selling album in his home country. Internationally, Nellyville was even more successful than its predecessor: In Germany, the album received a gold record in the year of its release for over 150,000 sales , while in the UK it received a double platinum record for more than 600,000 units sold. Nellyville was also awarded gold and platinum in Austria and Switzerland . For over a million copies sold across Europe, the album also received a platinum record.
The Grammy Awards 2003 was Nellyville in the categories Album of the Year and Rap Album Best nominated, but lost Come Away with Me by Norah Jones and The Eminem Show by Eminem . In contrast, the singles Hot in Herre and Dilemma won the prizes in the categories Best Rap Solo Performance and Best Rap / Sung Collaboration .
