Grammy Award for Best Rap Solo Performance

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Grammy Award for Best Rap Solo Performance , in German "Grammy Award for the best rap solo performance", is a music prize that was awarded from 1991 to 2011 at the annual Grammy Awards . Solo artists were honored for outstanding songs that are rapped on, i.e. primarily songs from the genre of hip-hop music. Since 2012 the award belongs to the category Best Rap Performance .

Background and story

Eminem received the award the most with four wins

The Grammy Awards (actually Grammophone Awards), which have been presented since 1958, are presented annually in numerous categories by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS) in the United States of America for artistic achievement, technical competence and excellent overall performance regardless of the album - Honor sales or chart position.

In 1991 the Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance , which has been awarded since 1989 , was divided into the categories of Best Rap Solo Performance and Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group . Another separation into Best Male Rap Solo Performance and Best Female Rap Solo Performance took place in 2003 and 2004 , but was subsequently reversed.

According to the category description, performers could receive the award for rap songs that were newly recorded or became known during the award period. The award was given according to the regulations for performances (singles / songs) by individual artists in the field of hip-hop music. As part of a restructuring of the Grammy Awards, the 2012 category was merged again with the award for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group to form the Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance in order to reduce the number of prizes.
