Grammy Award for Best R&B Song
The Grammy Award for Best R&B Song (in German about "Grammy Award for the best R&B song") is a music prize that has been awarded at the annual Grammy Awards since 1969 . The songwriters are honored for songs from the music field Rhythm and Blues (R&B).
Background and story
The Grammy Awards (actually Grammophone Awards), which have been presented since 1958, are presented annually in numerous categories by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS) in the United States of America for artistic achievement, technical competence and excellent overall performance regardless of the album - Honor sales or chart position.
The Grammy Award for Best R&B Song was first awarded in 1969 as Best Rhythm & Blues Song and kept this designation until 2000. The first prize went to Otis Redding and Steve Cropper for the song (Sittin 'on) the Dock of the Bay . Five songwriters received the award three times each: Beyoncé , Babyface , Stevie Wonder , Bill Withers and Alicia Keys . Babyface received the most frequent nominations with a total of 14 nominations, Stevie Wonder was nominated eight times and Luther Vandross and Leon Huff were each nominated seven times.
The Grammy is awarded to the composers of the awarded songs, not their interpreters.
Winners and nominees
The award is given to the songwriters of the winning songs, not the performing artists (unless both are identical). An asterisk (*) indicates that the title also received the Grammy Award for Record of the Year in the same year .
