Steven A. Jordan (born November 2, 1971 in Buffalo , New York ) is an American music producer , songwriter and contemporary R&B singer. In publications it is usually under the symbol Stevie J. or Stevie J out. As a member of the production team The Hitmen , he played an important role in the success of the label Bad Boy Records late 1990s and early 2000s .

biography

Jordan was born in Buffalo and raised in Rochester . His father is a Pentecostal minister , while his mother left the family when he was eight months old.

Together with friends, Jordan founded the music group Total , which played a mix of hip-hop and R&B. He also accompanied the band Jodeci on tours as a bassist . Eventually he moved to New York City to further professionalize his musician career. In studio recordings with total he was discovered by Sean Combs , the owner of Bad Boy Records, and signed him.

Jordan then mainly worked as a producer for Bad Boy. His first work was a remix of the single No One Else from the girl group , also named Total , in 1995 , which he recorded with Lil 'Kim and Da Brat . He subsequently produced for numerous bad boy musicians from the R&B and hip-hop genre, for example for Faith Evans , The Notorious BIG and Sean Combs himself. For his contribution to the album No Way Out he received from the 40th ceremony of the Grammys the Award for Best Rap album .

Among the most famous songs that originated with Jordan's participation at this time, the three include Billboard Hot 100 - number one hits I'll Be Missing You by Puff Daddy (triple platinum record the RIAA for more than three million sales ), Mo Money Mo Problems by Notorious BIG (RIAA platinum), and Honey by Mariah Carey (RIAA platinum).

Jordan then received offers to work with artists outside of black music , resulting in remixes for Sting and Garth Brooks . In 2002 he left Bad Boy and accepted an offer from Jackie Jackson . He moved to Los Angeles and worked for Jackson's newly formed label Jesco Records as an A&R manager and house producer. However, he could not build on his greatest successes.

Jordan then moved to Atlanta , where, from 2012, his personal life was shown in the reality TV series Love & Hip-Hop: Atlanta by VH1 . In 2013 he also released a solo album entitled Unstoppable , which did not gain commercial importance.
