Odell Brown

Odell Elliott Brown Jr. (born February 2, 1940 in Louisville, Kentucky , † May 3, 2011 in Richfield, Minnesota ) was an American organist, electric pianist, arranger and songwriter in the field of soul jazz and rhythm and blues .

Live and act

Odell Brown, best known for his collaboration with Marvin Gaye , with whom he wrote hits like the 1982 Grammy- winning song Sexueal Healing , began his career as a pianist in his hometown of Louisville. He then moved to Chicago and founded his jazz formation Odell Brown & the Organizers in Nashville in 1961 , with which he won the Billboards Best New Group Award in 1966 . His most successful album in 1967 was Mellow Yellow , which peaked at # 173 on the Billboard 200 . In the 1970s and 1980s he recorded for Chess Records and worked as a musician and arranger with artists such as Gaye, Johnny Nash , Curtis Mayfield and Minnie Riperton .
