Grammy Award for Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical
The Grammy Award for Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical (German Grammy Award for the best remix recording without classical music ) is a music award that has been awarded to performers for high-quality remixes in the field of contemporary music since 1998 .
Background and story
The Grammy Awards (actually Grammophone Awards) have been presented annually since 1959 for artistic achievement, technical competence and overall musical achievement in various categories by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS), regardless of the number of sales of the work.
The category of the Grammy Award for Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical was given for the first time at the award ceremony in 1998 under the name Grammy Award for Remixer Of The Year, Non-Classical (German Grammy Award for Remixer of the Year, without classical music ). The winner at the time was Frankie Knuckles . Up to and including 2001, the remixers were nominated without a specific work, from 2002 criteria were changed. Since then, the category has had its current name and the nominees are proposed for an edited work. The award goes exclusively to the remixer, not to the original interpreter of the edited song.
statistics
So far, three performers, namely David Guetta , Skrillex and Jacques Lu Cont , have each won the award twice and thus share the record for most awards. The American Steve Hurley has been nominated four times and is the interpreter with the most nominations. He couldn't win any of the prizes.
The United States has the largest number of winners, with nine award winners; three times the award went to an artist from France. Two award winners came from Great Britain, one award each went to performers from Austria and Italy.
