Grammy Awards 2008

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

On February 10, 2008, the 2008 Grammy Awards were presented at the Staples Center in Los Angeles . It was the big anniversary event: For the 50th time, the most important US music prize was awarded to the best artists of the past music year according to the jury. This time, the achievements between October 1, 2006 and September 30, 2007 were recognized.

Two new categories (Best Latin Urban Album and Best Album with Zydeco or Cajun Music ) increased the number of Grammys to a new high of 110, spread over 31 fields. (111 trophies were actually awarded, as there were two winners with equal votes in the Best Gospel Performance category.)

The big star of the anniversary ceremony was the Englishwoman Amy Winehouse , who won five categories out of six nominations, including three of the four main categories. However, she was not present at the event, but was only connected from a London club because there had been problems with her visa beforehand. In addition, her producer Mark Ronson was named producer of the year. Herbie Hancock surprisingly won album of the year . His River: The Joni Letters was the first jazz album to win this main category.

The most successful hip-hop artist was once again Kanye West , who won four of the five rap categories. Former rocker Bruce Springsteen received three awards, Alicia Keys and Chaka Khan each received two Grammys in the R&B area.
