Background and story

Since 1958, the Grammy Awards (actually Grammophone Awards) have been presented annually in numerous categories by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS) in the United States of America to recognize artistic achievement, technical competence and excellent overall performance regardless of album Honor sales or chart position.

The Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Album was first given in 2001, the winner was Joe Jackson for the album Symphony No. 1 . According to the price description, the price goes to artists whose albums contain at least 51% newly recorded instrumental material. In 2015, the award was renamed the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Instrumental Album and moved from the pop area to a separate award field, contemporary instrumental music.

The award was first given to Joe Jackson in 2001 for the album Symphony No. 1 awarded. The record for most awards in this category is held by Booker T. Larry Carlton and the band Spyro Gyra received most of the nominations, each of which was nominated four times.

So far, the award has gone ten times to American musicians, who make up the clear majority of the awardees. British musicians received the award twice and the award went once each to a Cuban and a Japanese musician (who both played together with an American musician).
