Mindi Abair
Mindi Abair (born May 31, 1969 in Saint Petersburg ) is an American musician who is stylistically assigned to smooth jazz . In addition to soprano and alto saxophone , Abair also plays the flute , keyboard and sings.
Life
At the age of eight, she learned to play the saxophone, following the example of her father, a professional saxophonist and keyboardist . She played in a high school marching band and later studied at Berklee College of Music in Boston .
After graduation, Abair moved to Los Angeles and began making a name for himself in the local scene with jam sessions. First she worked with the South African singer, guitarist and songwriter Jonathan Butler , then with the singing comedian Adam Sandler .
The saxophonist made her breakthrough when she was brought into the Backstreet Boys backing band . She played with a variety of artists, such as Mandy Moore and Bobby Lyle.
In 2000 she self-published her debut album Always and Never the Same . She has been married to the composer and musician Jason Steele since 2005.
