Grammy Award for Best Gospel Song
The Grammy Award for Best Gospel Song , in German "Grammy award for the best gospel song", was a music prize that was awarded from 2006 to 2014 by the American Recording Academy in the field of gospel music .
History and background
Since 1959, the Grammy Awards are presented annually in numerous categories by the Recording Academy in the United States to recognize artistic achievement, technical competence, and overall excellence regardless of album sales or chart position.
One of these categories was the Grammy Award for Best Gospel Song . The songwriter 's prize was first awarded at the 48th Grammy Awards in 2006 to James Harris, Terry Lewis, James Q. Wright and Yolanda Adams for the song "Be Blessed" sung by Yolanda Adams. As of 2012, the award category was divided into the Grammy Award for Best Gospel Song and Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Christian Music Song . The latter was a newly created category as part of a major overhaul of the Grammy categories to differentiate between traditional "old" gospel songs and contemporary gospel songs.
