Grammy Awards 2013

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

On February 10, 2013 were in the Staples Center of Los Angeles , the Grammy Awards 2013 awarded. Performers and other artists from the field of music have been honored for the 55th time with the most important US music award, the Grammys . The recognized musical works were published between October 1, 2011 and September 30, 2012. Three categories were newly introduced compared to the previous year.

General

After the categories were recently shortened, there were three more categories this time. Three album awards for the genre Urban Contemporary (R&B), Latin Jazz and classical music collecting programs were added. In addition, the Latin area has been redistributed: Pop and Rock / Urban have been separated, Tejano and Banda / Norteño have been combined into one Mexico category. This resulted in a total of 81 categories.

The Grammy Nominations Concert took place on the evening of December 5, 2012 in Nashville . The newcomers from Fun were among the most promising candidates, they were named in all four main and two pop categories. Mumford & Sons , rappers Jay-Z and Kanye West as well as Frank Ocean were among the other musicians with six nominations each. Ocean was also on the list in three main categories. The Black Keys were favorites in rock, Chick Corea in jazz and singer Miguel in R&B, each with five entries. Classical music was reserved for German musicians, among the nominees were Ute Lemper and the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin . The Swiss-Liechtenstein DJ Al Walser was among the prize candidates in the Dance category. However, none of them received an award.

The most successful artists were able to take home all three awards. On the one hand there was the Australian Gotye with the recording of the year Somebody That I Used to Know and two pop Grammys. The Black Keys were successful three times in rock. Skrillex won both dance awards as well as the award for the best remix he had created. Jay-Z and Kanye West won three trophies in rap with two different songs. The band Fun were able to claim two main categories as a newcomer and with their song We Are Young . For the best album of the year, the jury voted Babel from Mumford & Sons , whose tour documentary Big Easy Express brought in a second prize. In addition, many well-known stars were represented among the award winners, such as Paul McCartney , Brian Wilson (co-producer of a Beach Boys compilation), Jimmy Cliff , Bonnie Raitt , Dr. John , Chick Corea and Billy Vera (as album writer). Patti Page and Ravi Shankar could only receive the award for their life's work posthumously after they both died around the turn of the year. The Indian was also awarded again for his last album.
