Billy Vera (born May 28, 1944 in Riverside , California ; actually William Patrick McCord ) is an American singer , actor , writer and music historian.

Live and act

In the beginning of 1979 Billy Vera founded the band Billy and the Beaters in Los Angeles together with the bassist Chuck Fiore. In 1981 they released the songs I Can Take Care of Myself and At This Moment and had a modest chart success with them and with the debut album Billy & the Beaters . In late 1985, At This Moment was used as the background music for a romantic scene on the TV series Family Ties and received renewed attention. A best-of album by Billy Vera & the Beaters sold over a million copies the following year, and a new single release became a number 1 hit in the United States. In 1987 Vera appeared with The Beaters as a night club band in the film Blind Date .

Billy Vera also sings the theme song for the King of Queens series ("Baby All My Life").
