action
The single workaholic Walter Davis needs a presentable companion for an important business lunch between his company and a Japanese business partner. His brother Ted Davis suggests the attractive Nadia Gates, who is related to Ted's wife and likes to accompany Walter. The catch is that Nadia quickly loses self-control after drinking alcohol. Even though Walter knows this, he gives her champagne to drink before dinner, so that is exactly what happens.
During the meal and in the hours after, both stumble from one chaotic situation to the other. In her condition, Nadia spreads chaos at the business lunch, the wife of the Japanese business partner, who has several concubines, separates from her husband on her advice, the Japanese business partner therefore breaks off relations with the company, Walter is fired because of the events Car is partially dismantled by car thieves, it is robbed by a female street gang and the buffet is destroyed at a party they accidentally stumble into. In the meantime, Nadia's psychotic ex-boyfriend David has appeared and pursues Nadia and Walter, where he is also violent. When the meanwhile completely exasperated Walter finally threatens him with a weapon left by the street gang and shoots in his direction, he is arrested and taken to court.
But of all things, Nadia's ex-fiancé, a lawyer and son of the judge responsible, knocks Walter out, probably also because the judge is his father and just wants to get rid of his son. One condition for taking over the mandate is that Nadia returns to David and marries him. Out of necessity and knowing that Walter would otherwise have 10 years in prison for attempted murder, Nadia grudgingly agreed to save him and to make amends for what she did to him.
Walter, who has since become a musician, finds out about it and realizes that he is in love with her. He therefore wants to prevent the marriage. Shortly before the wedding ceremony, Walter sends Nadia alcoholic chocolates, which she eats. The ceremony in which a dog is shot and the priest ends up in a pool is correspondingly chaotic. In the end, Walter, who appears shortly afterwards, and Nadia, who immediately confesses his love for him in her condition when he appears, are in the pool in the arms and the marriage is canceled. Instead, they both get married and celebrate their wedding with a soft drink.

Reviews
- Rita Kempley compared the film in the Washington Post to the horror comedy Gremlins - Little Monsters , in which the Gremlin was not allowed to get wet - just as Nadia Gates shouldn't drink alcohol. She criticized the comedy for being uncomfortable and banal, adding that the script lacked the necessary finesse.
- The lexicon of international film regards the film as "a well-constructed comedy of a familiar pattern that offers light-weight, spirited entertainment and which is more conciliatory than comparable films."
- Kino.de describes the film as an "accomplished and smart Blake Edwards comedy with a sure sense of situational comedy."
- In Prisma's opinion, old comedy master Blake Edwards staged "a fast-paced screwball comedy with a lot of wit."

- Jupiter Award 1987: Award for the best international actress
- The German Film and Media Assessment FBW in Wiesbaden awarded the film the rating "valuable".
