George Coe
George Coe (born May 10, 1929 in New York City as George Julian Cohen , † July 18, 2015 in Santa Monica , California ) was an American film , stage and television actor and film producer . His best-known films include Kramer versus Kramer (1979), Entity - There is no escape from the invisible that haunts us (1982) and How Life is played out (2009).
Life
George Coe was born in Queens , New York . He started his career on Broadway in 1957 . He was a member of the original cast of Jerry Herman's musical Mame and appeared in Cy Coleman's musical On The Twentieth Century as well as in Stephen Sondheim's Musical Company . As an actor on television, Coe made his debut in the role of a reporter in the television series For the People in 1965 .
In 1969 he was nominated together with Anthony Lover and Sidney Davis for De Düva in the category " Best Short Film " for the Oscar , which however went to Charles Guggenheim for his short film - homage Robert Kennedy Remembered . In De Düva Coe worked three times, he directed, was involved in the production and also played in his parody of works by the director Ingmar Bergman himself. The film was Coe's only directorial work. In 1975 he was still involved as a producer on the film Deadly Distance (Distance) .
Coe was one of the founding members of Not Ready For Prime Time Players , which emerged from the comedy show Saturday Night Live , where he starred in the first three shows (1975) in parodies. In 1979 he played in the multi-Oscar-winning film drama Kramer vs. Kramer, Dustin Hoffman's superior , who dismissed him.
The versatile actor also took on guest roles in Spaceship Enterprise: The Next Century and in the science fiction television series Max Headroom . He also appeared in television series as diverse as Golden Girls , Murder is her Hobby , Columbo , For All Cases, Amy , Gilmore Girls , Bones - The Bone Hunter , King of Queens and Grey's Anatomy - among various others.
In the video games The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Star Wars: The Old Republic , released in 2011, he was asked in the original version as a voice.
George Coe died on July 18, 2015 in Santa Monica, California after a long illness at the age of 86.
