Professor Viktor Sundqvist is on his way to a seminar when he asks his chauffeur to take a detour after a pigeon has clearly marked the car window. The professor begins to ponder his life, which has lasted for 67 years and which, in addition to the Nobel Peace Prize in nuclear physics, also earned him a hernia . The car stops at the house, which is associated with many memories, and the professor hurries back to the adjacent toilet. When he has already lowered his pants, he finds a pigeon figure that carries him back to the past.
At that time he was younger and spent a lot of time with his sister Inga, whom he knows how to kiss very unfraternally and who in turn is desired by her cousin Sigfrid. Inga tells Viktor about her dream in which she became cold and felt numb. The conversation is interrupted by a pigeon who coos and hits Viktor shortly afterwards with a drop of excrement. Inga hurries away through the forest and Viktor follows her. Both finally meet Death, who admits that he has been chasing Inga for a while. Viktor, who knows that death likes to play, it calls for a badminton on -Zweikampf. Death agrees and competes against Inga. It's only about one point: Inga wins because at the crucial moment the pigeon irritates death and soils his cloak with feces. Inga and Viktor happily go nude bathing while death kills the pigeon and is annoyed by his soiled cloak, which has just been cleaned.
Professor Viktor Sundqvist ends his memory of the past. He leaves the toilet and admits he is feeling better now.

De Düva is a parody of the works of Ingmar Bergman , citing the films Wild Strawberries (Professor's Journey) and The Seventh Seal (Playing with Death). The actors speak English with a false pseudo-Swedish accent and Yiddish echoes, and the dialogues are subtitled in English. This is also partly parodic, so even the mooing of a cow is subtitled as "Moo". De Düva is a pseudo-Swedish variation of the English title The Dove , which is faded in small at the beginning. The closing titles are "Endsk".
The film was the screen debut of actress Madeline Kahn. Among other things, it ran in October 1968 at the Chicago International Film Festival .

De Düva was nominated for a Gold Hugo for Best Short Film at the 1968 Chicago International Film Festival. In 1969, the film received an Oscar nomination for Best Short Film .
