Council of Churches of Malaysia
The Council of Churches of Malaysia (German: Council of Churches in Malaysia ) is an ecumenical organization that represents the Christian churches and affiliated groups in Malaysia .
history
For the first time in the history of the Christian churches in Malaysia, the Malayan Christian Council (MCC) was formed in 1947 with the aim of ecumenical cooperation. On January 9, 1948, it was officially founded as an association.
Although the state of Malaysia was formed in 1963 when Singapore, British North Borneo and Sarawak became part of the Malaya Federation, the Malayan Christian Council retained its old name. It was not until 1967 that the association operated as The Council of Churches of Malaysia and Singapore . After Singapore broke away from the international community and became an independent state, it seemed advantageous to have a separate council for each nation; in this way, two national organizations emerged in 1975, the Council of Churches of Malaysia and the National Council of Churches of Singapore .
