Cy Coleman , actually Seymour Kaufman , (born June 14, 1929 in New York City , New York , † November 18, 2004 ibid) was an American composer and jazz pianist .

Life

Cy Coleman's musical career began at the age of six, giving piano recitals at Carnegie Hall and performing at Town Hall and Steinway Hall at the age of nine . He was later trained jazz pianist and wrote half a century the music of numerous Broadway - musicals and songs like " Why Try to Change Me Now ". In addition to his work as a composer, Coleman has also worked as a producer, writer, poet, arranger, musician, musical director and creative consultant.

Coleman received an Oscar nomination for his film Sweet Charity . He received two Grammy Awards for the film The Will Rogers Follies . In 1994 Coleman received a PhD from Long Island University .

Coleman died of a heart attack in 2004.
