Switch - The woman in the man is an American comedy film from 1991. Directed led Blake Edwards , who is also the writer wrote. The main role was played by Ellen Barkin .
action
The advertising man Steve Brooks is considered a chauvinist . Three of his former friends invite him to bathe in the whirlpool and try to drown him. When that fails, one of the three women, Margo, shoots him. His fate is negotiated in the hereafter; to escape hell, Steve is supposed to return to earth and find a woman who loves him. To make the task more difficult, the devil suggests that Steve should return in a woman's body.
Steve initially thinks the experience is a dream; in the bathroom, however, he is horrified to find that he lives in a woman's body. He poses as his half-sister, Amanda Brooks. In this role he takes on his own apartment as well as the job in the advertising company. He threatens his former friend Margo Brofman to publicize her murder. He also forces her to help him play his part. He also gets help from Walter Stone, his former best friend.
Steve's absence, however, raises increasing questions. Customer Sheila Faxton, a lesbian woman, shows interest in him as Amanda. One day, as Amanda, he is abused by Walter in a drunk state to have non-consensual sex. When Steve's body is found, Amanda is arrested.
It then turns out that Amanda is pregnant. Your daughter is born; an otherworldly voice says she loves Amanda. When Amanda dies, Walter takes the daughter with him and Amanda has to decide in heaven whether she wants to be a female or a male angel - both have advantages.
Reviews
The film received mostly negative reviews, earning a 33% rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 18 reviews.
Roger Ebert wrote in the May 10, 1991 Chicago Sun-Times that the film addresses two of Blake Edwards' favorite subjects: androgyny and adapting to another person's environment. He compared the film to the comedy Victor / Victoria . Ebert was surprised that Steve, trapped in a woman's body, found the lesbian Sheila unattractive, even though chauvinistic men like Steve found lesbian women "sexy". The film could have been a "revolutionary comedy" like Tootsie , but it missed that chance.
The lexicon of international film takes a similar view: “Only at the beginning is a delightful mixture of tragic comedy, melodrama and slapstick, which increasingly loses its staging elegance and becomes predictable. Emphatically gag-rich, but superficial and without a conceptual profile. "
The Wiesbaden film evaluation agency awarded the production the rating “valuable”.
Awards
Ellen Barkin was nominated for a Golden Globe in 1992 . Lyle Lovett was nominated for a Grammy for the song You Can't Resist It that year .
