Basil Hoffman

Basil Harry Hoffman (born January 18, 1938 in Houston , Texas ) is an American actor .

Life

Hoffman first studied economics at Tulane University . After completing his bachelor's degree , he attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City . He then worked at the theater and appeared in commercials and in an episode of the soap opera Love, Lies, Passion . In 1974, he first went to Los Angeles , where he received guest appearances in various television series, including The Rockford Files - just call , Kung Fu and M * A * S * H . Hoffman initially returned to New York, but moved permanently to Los Angeles in 1976. In the 1970s he played minor roles in The Untouchables , Close Encounters of the Third Kind and The Electric Rider , among others . In the 1980s he mostly worked for television, his feature films from this decade include Solo for 2 and Milagro - The War in the Bean Field . In the following years, too, his film appearances were few and far between and in some cases he remained unnamed in the film credits. In 2011 he appeared in the multiple Oscar- nominated silent film The Artist .

Hoffman worked as a private acting teacher at the American Film Institute , the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and the University of Southern California, among others . He served intermittently on the Board of Directors of the Screen Actors Guild and served on the arts council of Loyola Marymount University . He is also a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences . He is also the author of two drama textbooks, Cold Reading And How to Be Good At It and Acting and How To Be Good At It .

Hoffman is a widower, his wife died in 2006.
