Chuck Lumley works as a broker on Wall Street , but he is dissatisfied with his job. Lumley finds new job in the New York morgue . There he is assigned the night shift so that a relative of the boss who spends his working hours watching TV can take over the day shift.
Lumley meets Bill Blazejowski, who has numerous business ideas, on the night shift. Meanwhile, his relationship with Charlotte Koogle, to whom he is engaged, is in crisis. Lumley finds his neighbor, prostitute Belinda Keaton, attractive. The woman inspires Lumley and Blazejowski to start a call girl service with the morgue as an office.
Reviews
Janet Maslin wrote in the New York Times on July 30, 1982 that the film was "halfway funny" - it had good gags in the first half and serious problems in the second half. Ron Howard and the debuting Michael Keaton are the "real discoveries" of the film.
Film-Dienst wrote that the film was to a large extent a "peppy comedy about the development of a man from a cowardly to a self-confident contemporary" . He offers "except for a few flat moments, enjoyable entertainment" .
Awards
Henry Winkler was nominated for a Golden Globe Award in 1983 for Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical . Michael Keaton won the Kansas City Film Critics Circle Award in 1983 .
