action
The Grinch is a green-furry creature that lives in a mountain cave. He doesn't like Christmas because of bad childhood experiences . That's why he steals gifts from the residents of the neighboring town of Whoville in the disguise of Santa Claus.
The residents of Whoville celebrate Christmas anyway. The local resident Cindy Lou Who stands up for him and at the same time helps him come to terms with the past. The Grinch recognizes the importance of the festival, returns the Christmas gifts and participates in the festival of Christmas.
Reviews
James Berardinelli wrote on ReelViews that the animated film made based on the novel in 1966 had become a classic for three decades. The director Ron Howard tried to preserve the "spirit" of the cartoon. He used colorful backdrops. The result is not bad, but “commercial” instead of “creative” or “artistic”. Berardinelli praised the performances by Jim Carrey and Taylor Momsen.
The lexicon of international films wrote: “Comical fantasy film that sets out on a search for the meaning of Christmas with an immense budget and Jim Carrey in the lead role and creates a desolate mixture of kitsch and bile. In spite of all the turbulence, it also strikes subtle tones. "

The song Christmas, Why Can't I Find You? , which was written in a collaboration between James Horner and Will Jennings, should first be sung in the film by Taylor Momsen , who also played the role of Cindy Lou Who . But this was not realized. A longer and different version of this song called Where Are You, Christmas? , was written jointly by Mariah Carey , James Horner and Will Jennings . This song was also originally recorded by Mariah Carey. Because of a legal dispute with her ex-husband Tommy Mottola , who has been running Sony Music Entertainment , the parent company of Columbia Records , for almost 15 years, this could not be realized. So the song was re-recorded and released with Faith Hill . In the music video, Faith Hill sings on the mountain top in front of the Grinch's house. It was achieved that some excerpts from the film are shown in the music video and that Taylor Momsen has a cameo appearance . The song is still a popular Christmas carol today.
