Molly Helen Shannon (born September 16, 1964 in Shaker Heights , Ohio ) is an American actress .

Life and accomplishments

Shannon, the eldest of three sisters, lost her mother in a car accident in 1969. She graduated from the Hawken School in Gates Mills , Ohio in 1983 . She then studied at the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University , which she graduated in 1987.

Shannon made her debut opposite Robert Englund in the 1989 film drama The Phantom of the Opera . From 1995 to 2001 she appeared on the comedy show Saturday Night Live . For these appearances she was nominated for an Emmy in 2000.

Shannon received the National Board of Review Award for her role in the comedy Happiness (1998) as part of the cast . In the comedy Unküssst (1999) she played the role of Anita Olesky , a colleague in the newspaper office and friend of Josie Geller , who was played by Drew Barrymore . For her role in the comedy Superstar - Dare to dream (1999), in which she played one of the leading roles alongside Will Ferrell , she was nominated for the Blockbuster Entertainment Award in 2000. She also worked on the script for this comedy. She received another nomination for the Blockbuster Entertainment Award in 2001 for her role in the comedy The Grinch (2000).

In 2017 she was accepted into the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), which awards the Oscars every year.

Shannon has been married to Fritz Chesnut since 2004 and has two children.
