action

It is the last day at Camp Firewood, a Jewish summer camp near Waterville, Maine , in 1981. The carers have one last chance for a romantic encounter with someone else from the camp. The day culminates in the talent show in the evening.

Beth, the camp director, does everything she can to keep the carers working properly and to keep the campers alive. Meanwhile, she falls in love with Henry, an astrophysicist who teaches at a college. Henry feels responsible for saving the camp from a falling part of NASA's Skylab space station .

Coop, a supervisor, has a crush on Katie, another supervisor, but to win her heart he has to outdo her obnoxious friend Andy. He gets help from Gene, a veteran of the Vietnam War and cook of the camp, who is supported by a talking vegetable tin.

Meanwhile, Gene's kitchen help, Gary and JJ, try to find out why McKinley has never slept with a woman. The reason is that he is in love with Ben, whom he is marrying in a ceremony on the lakefront. Victor also tries to get rid of his virginity with Abby, and Susie and Ben do their best to put together the best talent show Camp Firewood has ever seen.

criticism

"Emphasizes turbulent summer comedy against the backdrop of the 80s, which uses all the clichés of the genre and almost compulsively strings together tastelessness that is increased to the point of macabre."
