Christopher Meloni
Christopher Peter Meloni (born April 2, 1961 in Washington, DC ) is an American actor .
Life
Meloni has ancestors of Italian and French-Canadian ancestry. In 1983 he earned a degree in history from the University of Colorado Boulder . He later studied acting with Sanford Meisner at the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theater in New York City and at the Center for the Media Arts .
Meloni has been married to Sherman Williams since 1995, with whom he has two children. He lives alternately in New York City and Los Angeles .
Career
Meloni made his debut in the television series California Bulls , in which he played from 1989 to 1990. From 1991 to 1994 he worked in the television series Die Dinos . He played one of the leading roles in the television film Herz in Fesseln (1993), as well as in the television series The Boys (1993) and Golden Gate (1994). In the thriller Bound (1996) he played a larger role alongside Jennifer Tilly and Gina Gershon . He appeared in two episodes of the television series Scrubs in a guest role as pediatrician Dr. Norris up.
In the 1999 comedy The Bride Who Doesn't Dare , Meloni played the role of gym teacher Bob Kelly , who is engaged to Maggie Carpenter ( Julia Roberts ), and starred in the award-winning short That Brief Moment in 2002. From 1998 to 2003 he appeared in several episodes of the television series Oz - Hell Behind Bars . From 1999 to 2011 Meloni played the role of Detective Elliot Stabler in the television series Law & Order: Special Victims Unit . For this role he was nominated in 2004 for the Prism Award and 2006 for the Emmy for "Best Actor". In the fifth season of HBO - vampire series True Blood he had the supporting role of the Roman Zimojic , founder of the American Vampire League held.
