action

Amid an unprecedented wave of crime in Columbus, Ohio, Governor John Meserve gives a press conference on his crime-fighting efforts. When Meserve is questioned by protesters about a planned pipeline, he promises to have commissioned an independent study of the pipeline. Abbie Hill and her family are following the press conference and are thrilled that the governor referred to her mother Vivian's work.

Vivian goes to the airport to pick up her husband Stanley, who has returned from an interview to run a factory in California. When they get to their car, they notice that one of the tires is flat. Before Stanley can fix the problem, a man comes up to her and asks her for money. Stanley refuses politely but firmly. Meanwhile, a second man sneaks up on Stanley and stuns him with a blow on the head. The first man then stabs Vivian and takes her wallet. Stanley is then kicked while lying on the ground by three men before he can watch the men flee.

Although Stanley clearly identifies his wife's killer during a confrontation, the police let the suspect go because Stanley would not be a reliable witness and was in shock during the crime. This makes Stanley (who is now called "Wrath") so angry that he starts looking for the killer named Charley. As he drives through the streets of the city at night, he sees him on a drug deal. He then drives home and takes out a suitcase from behind a wardrobe. There are several passports, foreign currencies and weapons in the case. He calls Dennis, his friend from the Special Forces, and asks him for information about Charley and his crew. Dennis conducts covert operations under a barber shop and has an arsenal of weapons and high-tech devices.

Dennis tries to dissuade Stanley from his plan of revenge. When he fails to do this, Dennis gives him a file with the suspects. Stanley starts looking for the first crew member in a local bar and meets Nathan there. After a short chase with shooting, Stanley manages to overpower Nathan. Nathan implies that Vivian's murder was more than just robbery. Dennis suddenly arrives and when Nathan reaches for his gun, he is shot by the two of them. When the corpse is disposed of, they are secretly photographed by an unknown person. Local crime lord Lemi K is furious when he sees the photo and orders his men to hunt Stanley and Dennis and their families. It then turns out that Detectives Jones and Gibson are working with Lemi and therefore let Charley go (Governor Meserve is being blackmailed by Lemi).

Stanley, with the help of Dennis, tracks down another man named Lars who was involved in the attack. He confronts him in a tattoo studio where he works. After Stanley got the words "I Am Wrath" ("I am the Wrath") tattooed on his back, Lars threatens him with a gun. After a fight, Stanley can kill Lars and then runs off with a bag full of drugs and money. Meanwhile, Dennis is surprised by Charley and two other men in his barber shop, which was devastated, and questioned about Stanley. He can kill the other two, but Charley escapes. Stanley and Dennis use the bag as bait to lure Charley into the VIP room of a Korean nightclub. Before Charley is killed, he tells that Vivian's murder was ordered by Lemi because she was too curious. When searching Vivian's files, Stanley finds that her study has classified the pipeline as unsafe with an eighty-two percent chance of water pollution. Stanley realizes Vivian's murder was staged to cover up the unsafe pipeline when she refused to lie about the results.

Meanwhile, Lemi has tracked down Abbie and is holding her hostage at home. She should ask her father to come over and send him an encrypted SMS so that he is warned. When Stanley and Dennis arrive, they kill Lemi's men. Dennis can shoot Lemi and thus incapacitate him so that Stanley can question him. Lemi reveals that the entire conspiracy was organized by Governor Meserve before he is suddenly shot by the corrupt Det. Gibson. Gibson then explains that Lemi blackmailed the governor through an incriminating video of his son and forced the police to keep his men out of prison. As part of the deal, Lemi agreed to do jobs for the governor, such as the murder of Vivian. Stanley infiltrates the governor's mansion and is able to bring him down. The two corrupt detectives are apparently also killed by Stanley. When the police arrive, Stanley is told to drop his gun and surrender. Stanley raises his gun and the police open fire. During the first aid on site, it turns out that he was wearing a bulletproof vest.

As a result, Stanley, who refused to go to court, is instead tried in a military tribunal. While Stanley is recovering in the hospital, the surviving corrupt Det. Walker tries to murder him, but Stanley shoots him with a hidden gun that Abbie smuggled into his room. Dennis takes Stanley away from the hospital, and the film ends with Abbie reading a postcard from Stanley that he sent from Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Reviews

At Rotten Tomatoes , the film received an 11 percent rating so far, based on 9 ratings. Neil Genzlinger of the New York Times wrote, “ I Am Wrath is a revenge film, a buddy film, a film about spiritual crisis and a film about political corruption. That's a lot of films - really too many, and ultimately it doesn't do any justice to any of these genres, although star power is at the top of the bill ”.
