The film is based on the biographical character of Jackie Robinson , who in 1947 was the first African American to integrate the most influential American professional baseball league ( MLB ), and Branch Rickey , the president and manager of the Brooklyn Dodgers , who defied the gentlemen's agreement with his commitment , which enforced unwritten racial segregation in the two MLB leagues for over fifty years.
