Don A. Mattrick (born February 13, 1964 in Vancouver , British Columbia ) is a Canadian manager and former computer game developer . From July 1, 2013 to April 2015, he was CEO of Zynga . He previously headed the Interactive Entertainment Business department at Microsoft , which was responsible for the development and marketing of the Xbox One game console under Mattrick .

biography

Mattrick was a co-founder of Distinctive Software and worked for the same after it was sold to Electronic Arts . As President of Microsoft's Interactive Entertainment Business on May 21, 2013, he presented the new Xbox One game console (project name: "Xbox Durango") . In addition, at the Microsoft press conference at the Electronic Entertainment Expo ( E3 ) 2013 in Los Angeles, he presented more details about the Xbox One, its hardware and software components and some of the games that will be released for the Xbox One .

On July 2, 2013 it was announced that Mattrick would immediately move as the new CEO to the game developer Zynga. In the reporting, this change was associated with the Xbox One product presentation, which was perceived as unsuccessful.

On April 9, 2015, it was reported that Mattrick would leave Zynga in favor of company founder Mark Pincus, even though the company was on the right track with regard to its development. One reason for the switch could be that Zynga has neglected too long in the past to develop games primarily for smartphones.
