action

Sarah is a shy, introverted young woman who leads a quiet life and works in a craft shop. In her free time, she visits the grave of her mother, who died of suicide the year before, and visits the stable where her former horse Willow is on board and where she rode in her childhood. Sarah's frequent visits annoy the owners visibly. On Sarah's birthday, she makes a feeble attempt to ask the woman who teaches her Zumba class to go out with her without making her point clear. When her roommate Nikki Sarah finds Sarah at home alone on her birthday, she invites Darren, her friend Brian's roommate, to a double date. The four of them smoke marijuana and have a drink, and Sarah listens intently as Darren reveals details about himself and his past relationship. After he leaves, Sarah has a bizarre dream in which she lies in a white room with a man and a woman.

The next morning, Nikki wakes up and sees Sarah sleeping on the living room floor. Large scratches run across the wall. Darren returns to the apartment to get his car and asks Sarah out on a date. At work, Sarah suffers from a bloody nose and recognizes a man who goes outside and who resembles the one in her dream. Sarah later spends an afternoon with her childhood friend, Heather, who sustained a traumatic brain injury in a riding accident that results in recurrent seizures and short-term memory loss.

A number of bizarre incidents soon happened to Sarah: she hears people talking in her apartment when Nikki is not home, and later that morning she discovers that her car was stolen from her apartment garage. Gary, Sarah's wealthy stepfather, informs her that the car has turned up at a tow station as the registration is still in his name. He brings Sarah to pick it up and the tow driver informs her that the car has been parked near a water facility in the middle of the road. Later, Sarah apparently walks out of her apartment and wakes up on a sidewalk with an unexplained loss of time. Her boss, Joan, suggests that Sarah see a doctor because Sarah's family history has mental health issues.

Sarah is convinced that she has experienced alien abductions and that she is possibly a clone. The latter is triggered by a subplot in Purgatory, a fantasy television series Sarah watches regularly. Given her striking resemblance to her late grandmother, Sarah fears that she may be a clone of hers. Meanwhile, she pursues the man from her dream, Ron, to a plumbing business that he owns. During a date with Darren, Sarah manically confides her belief that she is a clone and lets him drive her to her mother's grave to dig her up and recover her DNA. When Darren is disturbed, Sarah accuses Darren of plotting against her and threatens him with scissors, forcing him to leave her there.

After Sarah stripped naked at work without remembering it, she was admitted to a mental hospital. After experiencing a series of bizarre visions, Sarah is released after 72 hours, of which she can only make out 24. Sarah returns home and puts on her grandmother's dress, secretly steals Willow from the stable, and takes her into the woods. Sarah stops in a clearing and lies on the ground. Moments later a spaceship appears; she floats to the sky and disappears.
