David Paymer
David Paymer (born August 30, 1954 in Oceanside , Hempstead, New York ) is an Oscar- nominated American actor and director.
Life and accomplishments
Paymer grew up in a Jewish family in Oceanside , a hamlet on Long Island . His father Marvin Paymer made his living with scrap metal and later became a pianist and conductor . His mother had fled Belgium from the Nazis . In 1973 the parents divorced. His older brother is the actor Steve Paymer (* 1951), with whom he later worked. David Paymer studied acting and psychology at the University of Michigan . He attended the Lee Strasberg Theater and Film Institute and the Professional Performing Arts School in New York City .
The first success came for him in the 1970s. Paymer was initially on tour with the musical Grease , in which he played Sonny LaTierri in a supporting role. He then performed the production on Broadway .
In almost 30 years of professional activity, Paymer played around 130 roles in television series, television films and movies and has received various awards. He became known to a larger audience through the comedy City Slickers - Die Großstadt-Helden (1991) with Billy Crystal . At the 1993 Academy Awards , Paymer was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his role in The Last Comedian - Mr. Saturday Night , which was tailor-made for him by Billy Crystal. Furthermore, Paymer has two Golden Globe nominations, namely in 1993 for Best Supporting Actor for The Last Comedian - Mr. Saturday Night and 1997 for Best Supporting Actor for Crime of the Century .
In 2000, the National Board of Review awarded him the NBR Award for State and Main , along with the acting company . For this film he received the OFCS Award at the 2001 Online Film Critics Society Awards , along with Best Acting Ensemble . In the same year he received the FFCC Award also for State and Main at the Florida Film Critics Circle Awards , also here together with the acting company.
In recent years, Paymer has also directed various television series. He has been married to Liz Georges since 1988 and has one daughter.
