Scary Movie 4

Scary Movie 5 is an American horror comedy from director Malcolm D. Lee from the year 2013 with Ashley Tisdale in the lead role. It is the fifth installment in the Scary Movie series and, like the previous films, was produced by Dimension Films . It didn't appear until seven years after the fourth part . This is the longest break between two Scary Movie films. The cinema release in the United States was April 12 , 2013 in Germany .

action

At the beginning you can see Charlie Sheen's house , where he is making a sex tape with Lindsay Lohan . After sex, a demon takes possession of Lindsay, whereupon she kills Charlie.

A few months later, Charlie's children are found in a cabin in the woods. These are recorded by Uncle Dan and his wife Jody. In order to establish a connection with the children, Jody starts ballet and gets the lead role in the new production of Swan Lake . After a while, strange things are going on in the house. Jody learns that mom , the children's mother, is responsible. As a result, she appoints a ghost catcher, but it turns out to be a cheat. Only through Dom Kolb, a dream expert, does she realize that she needs the Book of Evil to be able to stop Mama . There is also an orgy between various cleaning machines.

With the help of Kendra, her best friend, she manages to get the book. When mom leads the children to the abyss, Jody shows up to free them from the demons with the book. But mom prevents this. The children realize that Jody loves them and push mom down the cliff, which then falls into a pool on a ship and is eaten by Snoop Dogg's shark.

At the end you see the performance of Swan Lake , in which Kendra gets the role of the swan queen from Jody and strips instead of dancing ballet.

Postal credit scene

It turns out that Charlie just dreamed it all. Dom Kolb tells him that he's about to have sex with Lindsay Lohan. Suddenly a car crashes into the room and runs over Charlie. Lindsay turns out to be the driver, throws the keys to Dom Kolb and disappears.

production

script

Allegedly, over a period of three years, the studio tried to convince David Zucker, who directed Scary Movie 3 and Scary Movie 4 , to take over the direction of this project as well. Ultimately, it was agreed that Zucker would not direct, but would write the script. Malcolm D. Lee was hired as a director.

Zucker began by rewriting a script that had already been written by Stephen Leff, John Aboud and Michael Colton. He initially worked with the director Lee, later with Pat Proft .

Originally, Scary Movie 5 was supposed to be a parody of Scream 4 . However, this idea was dropped after Scream 4 didn't turn out to be the hoped-for popular hit. As a special feature, the film Evil Dead was parodied, although it was only released a week before Scary Movie 5 in theaters. This was made possible because the film team had gained access to the script of Evil Dead .

Cast and film staff

The film studio offered Marlon, Keenen Ivory and Shawn Wayans, who were responsible for the first part of the Scary Movie film series, to also realize this part of the series, but they refused.

The main role was originally supposed to be taken over by Anna Faris , who had already played it in the previous films. However, she was not available for the film because she was pregnant at the time of filming. In June 2012 it was announced that Ashley Tisdale would take over from her.

The actors Regina Hall , Kevin Hart and Anthony Anderson , who had already played in the previous films, declined offers for Scary Movie 5 .

Craig Bierko was initially scheduled for the role of Dan before the role was awarded to Simon Rex.

Lindsay Lohan , Charlie Sheen , Snoop Dogg , Mike Tyson , Mac Miller , Sheree Whitfield and Big Ang portray themselves in the film. Kendra Wilkinson can also be seen as Christian Gray's slave in a scene removed from the finished film .

Filming

The shooting took place from September 4, 2012 to October 26, 2012.

Extensive new recordings took place from February 18, 2013 to March 1, 2013, directed by David Zucker. Allegedly, the finished film consisted of around 60% material that had been created during the new recordings. Director Lee had no more influence on the final cut, as he was already busy with a new project.

synchronization

The German dubbing was created under the dialogue book by Marius Clarén and the dialogue direction by Sven Hasper by the dubbing company Interopa Film GmbH in Berlin .

Aftermath

Financial success

Scary Movie 5 was created with a budget estimated at 20 million US dollars , which he recorded in the United States in the first two weeks. Total theatrical revenues totaled approximately $ 32 million in the United States and approximately $ 41 million in the rest of the world.

Contemporary criticism

The world noticed that "humor is not for everyone". The structure seems "pieced together in episodes" and there would be "endless repetitions of some ideas". It was concluded that the “highlights are few and far between” and that the film is therefore “only recommended to die-hard fans of the series”.

The Süddeutsche Zeitung wrote, "Scary Movie 5 does the same thing as every previous Scary Movie" and is "now almost old-fashioned fun".

Andreas Busche called Scary Movie 5 in the time a "medium witty ready-made from the drawing board".

The lexicon of international films stated that the film was "dramatically completely frayed" and the "gag level largely underground".
