Jasmine Guy (born March 10, 1962 in Boston , Massachusetts ) is an American actress , singer and dancer .

Career

In 1981, at the age of 19, she joined the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and began performing in popular musicals such as Grease . In 1982 she made her television debut in the dance series Fame - Ways to Fame , in which she played a dancer in a total of 10 episodes.

Her final breakthrough came with the comedy series College Fever , in which she played college student Whitley Gilbert Wayne from 1987 to 1993. Originally, the series was tailor-made for actress Lisa Bonet , but when she quit in 1988, Jasmine Guy became the star of the show and received six Image Awards in the category Best Actress in a Series - Comedy .

In 1990 she released a music album, several of which were featured in the College Fever series .

After college fever ended , she returned to musicals and made guest appearances in popular television series such as Melrose Place , Superman - The Adventures of Lois & Clark and A Breath of Heaven .

From 2003 to 2004 she was part of the regular cast of the fantasy series Dead Like Me - As good as dead .

Private life

Her father, William Guy, is the pastor of a Baptist Church in Atlanta , Georgia , where Jasmine Guy was raised. She has been married since 1998 and has a daughter (* 1999).
