Malcolm D. Lee

Malcolm D. Lee (born January 11, 1970 in Queens , New York City ) is an American director and screenwriter.

Life

Lee studied English and Fine Arts at Georgetown University, graduating there in 1992. He then took a scholarship for screenwriting from the Disney studios and also held various positions in film production.

Lee made his debut as a director and screenwriter with the comedy film The Best Man - Wedding with Obstacles in 1999. For this he was awarded the Black Reel Award in two categories . His second film followed in 2002 with Undercover Brother , also a comedy. To date, five more cinema productions have followed, mainly comedies, and in 2006 he directed an episode of the series Alle hate Chris .

In 2013, The Best Man Holiday was a sequel to his debut film The Best Man , which he again directed. In 2016 he shot the second sequel to Barbershop (2002) with Barbershop: The Next Cut . The comedy Girls Trip , released in 2017, is Lees' most successful feature film to date in the USA in terms of nominal income.

The director Spike Lee is a cousin of Malcolm D. Lee.
