Golden Globe Award / Best Actor - Comedy or Musical

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Winner and nominee for the Golden Globe Award in the category Best Actor - Comedy or Musical (since 2005 Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy ), which honors the most outstanding acting achievements of the past calendar year. The category was launched in 1951. From 1944 to 1950, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) awarded an actor's award (Best Actress in a Motion Picture) without subdivision by film genre (see Golden Globe Award / Best Actor - Drama ).

The best comedy or musical actor was later awarded the Oscar seven times , most recently in 2012 when the French Jean Dujardin ( The Artist ) was awarded the prize . 1951–1954, 1956–1959, 1962, 1964, 1968, 1971, 1973, 1974, 1977, 1981, 1985, 1987, 1991, 1993–1996, 1999–2003, 2007, 2009–2011, 2018 and 2020 took place the award-winning Film role no consideration for the Oscar. The rare honor of being nominated for two different film roles in one year was given to American Jack Lemmon ( The Girl Irma la Douce , A Marriage Bed for Trial ) in 1964 and his compatriot Johnny Depp ( Alice in Wonderland , The Tourist ) in 2011 .

American actors have won the Acting Award 44 times (including American-Canadian actor Jim Carrey ), followed by their colleagues from Great Britain (13 wins), Australia (2 wins) and the victories of the two Italians Marcello Mastroianni and Alberto Sordi , who were the only actors for non-English speaking roles to receive the award. The Frenchman Jean Dujardin was honored in 2012 for a feature film designed as a silent film, but spoke few words in English in the original version. Actors from German-speaking countries have not yet been able to join the list of winners or nominees.
