content

The American journalist Sue Charlton from New York City travels to Walkabout Creek in the Northern Territory in Australia to meet Mick "Crocodile" Dundee, from whom she has read adventurous stories about a victorious battle with a crocodile . When he travels with her through the bush, Sue gets to know and love the country and its people. Fascinated, she invites the hillbilly Mick to take her to New York. There he has to learn how to survive in the “urban jungle” and his lack of knowledge of city life causes numerous misunderstandings.

The film is a modern twist on the fable of the town mouse and the field mouse. Paul Hogan also pokes fun at the quirks of his Australian compatriots. The linguistic peculiarities due to the Australian dialect, which takes getting used to, are largely lost in the German dubbed version, since all participants are synchronized in High German .

IMDb

“A sympathetic old-fashioned comedy that the Australian television star Paul Hogan has written for himself. The punch lines, which are primarily derived from the constellation 'spoiled party girl in the jungle' or 'nature boy at the cocktail party', are of lovable simplicity and never disturb the harmonious flow of a well-made family film. Nevertheless, even the experts were surprised that this was a global success (...) "

- Dieter Krusche, Jürgen Labenski in Reclam's electronic film lexicon (CD-ROM), Reclam, Stuttgart 2001

"Wonderfully dry humor and sometimes almost poetic comedy."

- Evening newspaper , Munich

"The straightforwardly told, amusing story cleverly confronts the set pieces of the adventure genre with contemporary phenomena that are difficult to understand simply, which gives the story a cheerful, appealing note."
