Mark Blum

Mark Blum (born May 14, 1950 in Newark , New Jersey , † March 25, 2020 in New York City ) was an American actor .

Life

Mark Blum was born in Newark to a Jewish family. He graduated from high school in 1968 and then successfully studied at the University of Pennsylvania . When he returned to New York, he began to play theater regularly from the late 1970s. In the beginning it was still off-Broadway productions, he made his debut on November 16, 1977 in a minor supporting role in The Merchant of Venice at the Plymouth Theater and was seen more frequently on Broadway in the following decades .

Blum made his film debut in 1983 in a small supporting role in the love comedy Lovesick, directed by Marshall Brickman , in which Dudley Moore , Elizabeth McGovern and Alec Guinness played the leading roles. Over the years, Blum was able to establish himself as a supporting actor in more than 80 film and television productions. He played supporting roles in films like Susan ... Desperately Wanted (as a bathtub seller and husband of Rosanna Arquette's character), Presidio and Crocodile Dundee - A crocodile to kiss , in the latter he was seen as Richard Mason , editor-in-chief and friend of the main female character . He has also appeared as a guest star on television series such as The Sopranos , CSI: Miami , Fringe - Borderline Cases of the FBI and The West Wing - In the Center of Power . From 2014 to 2018 he played the supporting role of piccolo player Union Bob in the series Mozart in the Jungle . He had worked for the New York theater company Playwrights Horizons for many years .

Blum was married to actress Janet Zarish since 2005 . He died in March 2020 at the age of 69 from complications from a SARS-CoV-2 infection in the New York Presbyterian Hospital .
