Presidio (original title The Presidio ) is an American action thriller from 1988 about a murder on a military base. Directed by Peter Hyams .
action
In the military base Presidio at the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco , the military policewoman Patti Jean Lynch is murdered when she investigated a burglary in the officers' club the base. Lt. Colonel Caldwell is assigned by the military to solve the case. At his side is the policeman Jay Austin. Austin does not have a good memory of Caldwell, as Caldwell was blamed for an incident during his military service on this very base without an examination and an officer was exonerated. When Austin falls in love with Caldwell's daughter Donna, the differences between the two grow bigger. In the murder case, Jay Austin suspects the officer Caldwell covered years ago. A case from the murder weapon seems to confirm the suspicion. When Austin tries to arrest the suspect, he is killed while fleeing in a car accident, with the driver of the vehicle being hit and miss.
The case is now closed for Austin, but not for Colonel Caldwell, who lacks the motive for the crime and suspects several people behind it, including the owner of the escape vehicle reported as stolen from the above. Murder. In fact, the two found other suspects through the motive and put them in a warehouse, where it turns out, among other things, that Sgt.Maj. Ross Maclure, a good friend and former military comrade of Colonel Caldwell, is one of the main actors in a smuggling affair.
Reviews
"Good direction and actors make up for some of the script's weaknesses and, surprisingly, often draw attention from external action to the psychology of the characters."
Trivia
As in many other Peter Hyams films, one of the supporting characters is called Spota. The name goes back to the maiden name of his wife, with whom Hyams has been happily married since 1964. Still, the Spota's character is almost always a villain. In Presidio, George Spota is a driver for a beverage company and a former military man involved in the murder case under discussion.
