action

After the death of his beloved wife, architect Sam Baldwin moves with his son from Chicago to Seattle to gain distance.

For Christmas 18 months later, Annie Reed, a newspaper editor from Baltimore , visits her parents with Walter, the "future" husband, to announce the engagement. On the drive home later in the evening, she hears Jonah, Sam's now 8-year-old son, calling a radio show on the subject of “Christmas wishes”. He reports on the death of his mother and wishes for a new wife for his father, as the latter suffers greatly from the loss. The radio presenter asks the surprised Sam on the phone and asks him questions about his wife's death and his life afterwards. Sam answers briefly and objectively at first, but then admits that it is still very difficult for him. When the presenter asks Sam what was so special about his wife, Sam can no longer hold back. After a moment's hesitation, he begins his answer with the sentence "How long is your airtime?" and he now describes how much he loved his wife, how her presence alone enriched his life, how thousands of little things enriched this deep love and that he already felt the first contact between them as "magic". Sam is now talking his deepest feelings from his soul and not only Annie is very touched as a listener. Even days later, like many other listeners, she thinks of the soulful Sam, who was called "Insomniac in Seattle" by the radio presenter because of his insomnia. Nevertheless, she continues to plan the wedding and a romantic weekend in New York on Valentine's Day with Walter .

Sam receives hundreds of letters from women all over the US, but shows no interest in them because he wants to meet a new woman the traditional way. He makes an appointment with the interior designer Victoria.

In a letter to Sam inspired by the film The Great Love of My Life, Annie proposes a meeting on Valentine's Day on the roof of the Empire State Building , which her friend Becky sends without Annie's knowledge. Jonah is delighted with the letter and tries to convince his father to see Annie. However, he focuses on the new contact with Victoria, which Jonah doesn't like. Annie decides to fly to Seattle under the guise of an article researching. There she sees Sam, but does not have the courage to speak to him after she sees him warmly hugging another woman. It's Sam's sister Suzy, but Annie thinks she's his new girlfriend. Sam is still impressed by Annie's appearance.

Back in Baltimore, Annie finds a letter from Sam, written by Jonah on Sam's behalf, confirming the meeting on Valentine's Day. However, she fully wants to return to Walter.

On Valentine's weekend, Jonah flies alone to New York and tries in vain to find a woman named Annie on the Empire State Building. Sam follows him and finds him on the viewing platform shortly before the building closes. Meanwhile, Annie Walter reports on the confusion lately and they break off the engagement. Annie also drives spontaneously to the now deserted meeting point. Shortly afterwards Sam and Jonah return because the boy forgot his backpack. There is an immediate special bond between Sam and Annie.

template

The Hollywood film is not a remake of the film An Affair to Remember (An affair to remember) with Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr in 1957; the remake is Perfect Love Affair with Annette Bening and Warren Beatty (1994). Only the memorable scene that part of a future couple is waiting for the other supposed love partner at the Empire State Building and the audience is curious to see whether they can find each other is an action quote.

In addition, the characters of Sleepless in Seattle speak several times about the film The Love of My Life , from which a few short scenes are shown.
