With seven prizes and 13 nominations, Steven Spielberg 's Schindler's List prevailed as the big favorite of the evening. Also, The Piano lived up three prizes at ten nominations of his favorite role. The big loser of the evening was what was left of the day , which came out empty-handed with six nominations.
