Joanna Quinn

Joanna Quinn (born February 4, 1962 in Birmingham ) is a British animator and advertising artist. The “ Charmin Bear” is one of her well-known advertising works.

Life

Quinn went first at Goldsmiths College of the University of London a foundation course in art, and then went for a graphic design studies at the Middlesex University . Here she turned to animation and created her first short animated film Girl's Night Out in 1986 . Quinn moved to Wales, where she founded Beryl Productions International with her former teacher Les Mills in 1987 . It was named after the cartoon character "Beryl" who was first seen in Girl's Night Out . "Beryl" appeared again in the short animation film Body Beautiful , which appeared in 1990. In 2006 Dreams and Desires: Family Ties , Beryl appeared again.

One of Quinn's greatest successes is Famous Fred from 1996, which was nominated in 1998 for an Oscar in the category Best Animated Short Film. She also contributed the segment The Wife of Bath for the Oscar-nominated short film The Canterbury Tales . Quinn also works as an animator for advertising films, for example she invented the “Charmin Bear” for Charmin toilet paper and animated various advertising films for Whiskas . Quinn teaches animation in various schools in Europe and the United States.

In 2018 she was appointed to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences , which awards the Oscars every year.
