DeVotchKa is an American band from Denver , Colorado . The band name is derived from the Russian word dewotschka [девочка], which means "girl".
Band history
DeVotchKa is a vocal and multi-instrumental ensemble, which merges Greek, Romance and Slavic musical elements. The group's roots lie in American punk and folk music. However, it is difficult to assign her work to a genre and is also influenced by bolero , mariachi and gypsy jazz influences. The quartet consists of Nick Urata , Tom Hagerman, Jeanie Schroder and Shawn King.
The band achieved greater fame with their song How It Ends , which was used in the trailer for The Last Day for the video game Gears of War 2 . The ensemble also contributed songs to the soundtrack of the film Little Miss Sunshine (2006) alongside Mychael Danna . In 2010 the song Dearly Departed accompanied a key scene in the film Jack in Love with Philip Seymour Hoffman as Jack.
Currently is the band at the Independent - Label ANTI-Records under contract.
